In its latest report issued by the United Nations Committee Against Torture (CAT), the Committee reveals an alarming double language:
on the one hand, it “condemns” Israel’s crimes, yet on the other hand,
it carefully inserts excuses and qualifiers in nearly every paragraph,
as if afraid to speak the full truth.
The report refers to “security concerns” and “complex circumstances,” even as it documents the mass arrest, torture, starvation, and killing of Palestinians inside detention centers.
This is not the language of a body tasked with combating torture;
it is the rhetoric of a confused bureaucracy trying to balance truth with politics.
The report should have described reality without hesitation:
a systematic machinery of torture, deliberate mass starvation, and an ongoing, unrestrained campaign of extermination.
Instead, it hides behind diplomatic phrasing at a moment that demands moral clarity, not linguistic complicity.
