The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor warned of Israeli-American plans aimed at imposing a forced transition to a digital economy model in the Gaza Strip, including the withdrawal of cash liquidity and placing financial transactions under security control. It explained that the use of “digital wallets” could turn into a tool of collective control and coercion, threatening to deprive residents of access to money and basic services, and transforming economic rights into revocable privileges

The organization also expressed concerns about linking financial and humanitarian services to biometric arrangements or security classifications, in addition to restricting advanced internet access to specific areas in a way that increases pressure on the population. The Monitor called for preventing the imposition of any digital financial arrangements under occupation without Palestinian sovereignty and independent oversight, and for subjecting any digital system to regular audits regarding privacy and human rights
